04.14 / CDS User Guide
Activity IDs and progression.
Find the right lesson and understand its label without changing existing exercise identities.
Stable IDs and readable labels
A stable internal ID identifies an activity across catalogs and saved references. A display code is its readable catalog label. A registered alias keeps an older reference searchable. A renamed label does not rewrite saved assignments or results.
Search by a stable ID, display code, registered alias, title, topic or explicit family. If an alias matches more than one activity, choose by title and stable ID.
School tracks and recommended progression
M identifies introductory middle-school CREATE EXPLORE lessons; H identifies introductory high-school lessons. The current labels are M.01.01 through M.01.10 and H.01.01 through H.01.10. These initial labels do not establish a universal topic-family numbering rule.
- Family
- The explicit topic group, such as bending or structures.
- Complexity order
- The recommended learning sequence in this reviewed catalog, not a measured ability score.
- Prerequisites
- Activities explicitly listed as required preparation. The current twenty introductory lessons list no enforced prerequisites.
- Related activities
- Useful connections; a related activity is not automatically required or completed.
- Next step
- A recommended lesson or existing authorized Workbench study. It does not grant access, run a calculation or submit work.
Real catalog examples
| Activity | Stable ID | Meaning |
|---|---|---|
| M.01.09 Build and bend: stacking detective | school-m-01-09 | Middle school; bending family; recommended middle-school order 9. |
| H.01.01 Your first virtual bridge | school-h-01-01 | High school; structures family; recommended overall school order 11. |
| Rule of mixtures | 01-rom | Existing college/professional curriculum activity. Its assigned display label remains in the catalog. |
School links open the existing classroom flow. Sign-in, class level and current access still apply. An unavailable or wrong-level lesson does not open a solver.
Keep legacy chapter conventions
Existing Workbench chapter groups remain 01 Getting started, 02 Design & applications and 03 Advanced & coupled studies. Existing E, P, S and T labels and their exceptions retain their established meanings. They have not been renumbered into M or H tracks.
Do not infer a model family, difficulty, prerequisite or completion from digits alone. Use the activity title and explicit catalog metadata.
What a practice tick means
A school practice tick means each practice question was attempted in the current open page. It does not mean passed, saved, submitted, graded, mastered or professionally qualified. Copy learning notes before leaving or refreshing. Opening a Workbench continuation does not automatically transfer a layer-builder state.

Current Workbench, reference editions and downloads
Use the online User Guide for current controls, the released model directory for selectable models and compatibility, and the Training Manual for connected exercises. Wider theory references do not mean every formulation is enabled in Workbench.
Screenshots and download editions carry revision dates; consult the current chapter for updated Workbench instructions. Find the overview PDF, guides and exercise databases in Your CDS library.
